Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka shankar is an British and American sitarist. She also performs music. She was the first and first female to win the British House of Commons Shield she's received 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to play live on stage and also serve as a presenter at the ceremony. Anoushka Sitar Shankar was one of the Indian young sitar singer. She is a scholar and daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar. Born in London, she spent the beginning of her career bouncing between London as well as New Delhi. When she arrived in New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years old. Later she moved to Encinitas CA she attended high school, graduating with distinction in 1999. Although she is still very young, Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording. Since quite some time, she has been performing regularly with her father. In 1998 she released her debut self-titled album Anourag. It was nominated for a Grammy Award. Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. The stage is a very large part of her career. She has performed in a variety of famous venues around the world. Anoushka Shakar's work is not restricted to just music. In 2002 she published an autobiography titled Bapi The Love of My Live this is a picture-based biography, which pays special tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her was a part on Dance Like a Man as the Bharat Natyam artist. Her career continues to grow and she is expected to accomplish many amazing things in the future. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her youth split between London as well as Delhi. After that, she relocated to California and attended high school. From the age of nine she started studying music with her father, who made her debut on the sitar four years later, at the celebration of his 75th birthday in Delhi. The father of Anoushka travelled the world with her and she also gained a variety of experience. While still at her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall during Peter Gabriel's WOMAD Music Festival. The House of Commons Shield was presented an award from the British Parliament for being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only female and is the smallest recipient of the distinction.
